The low-pressure system Britta hit northern Germany on Tuesday night and Wednesday, causing record floods in some places, with hurricane-force gusts of up to 145 kilometers/hour (90 miles/hour) recorded. In the port city of Wilhelmshaven a tug was stranded on the beach.
