Mt. Erebus (3,794 meters): The volcano is located on an island at the entry to the Ross Sea. It's also the place where the enormous Ross Ice Shelf pours into the Antarctic Sea. It is fed by drainage from the glaciers that comprise the Antarctic ice shelf. The history of the climate in Antarctica, which effectively serves as a sort of refrigerator for the world's oceans, has shifted far more over the years than previously believed.
