About 1.6 million hectares of German land are currently used for energy production. There has been a stark increase in the color yellow in German landscapes as farmers have switched to rapeseed farming. Rapeseed oil, converted into halfway decent diesel fuel when combined with methanol, was the first vegetable-based fuel to make its way into German gas tanks.
