Berlin's much-loved House of World Cultures -- nicknamed the "pregnant oyster" by locals because of its curved form -- re-opens Thursday with a festival dedicated to New York. The building, originally known as the Congress Hall, opened in 1957 as a gift from the US to Berlin.
