The Battle of the Oranges in the Piedmont region town of Ivrea involves around 3,000 revellers on foot and in carts. They re-enact a Middle Ages battle when the townsfolk overthrew an evil king. Italians playing the role of "foot soldiers" hurl oranges at horse drawn carriages carrying the "Royal King's Guards".
