Though perhaps less ambitious in its design than the mosque in Cologne, the mosque being built in the Berlin district of Heinersdorf is no less significant. Scheduled to be opened on Oct. 16, 2008, the mosque will be the first in Berlin and in all of eastern Germany. Its construction has been a source of conflict since its plans were first announced.
