Much of Congo's eastern borderlands are volatile after the 1998-2003 war. An estimated 5.4 million people have been killed over the past decade, including many young children. Most of the warring parties of the conflict in eastern Congo, including the Congolese Army, Rwandan Hutu rebels, and Congolese Tutsi rebels, have also used rape as a weapon of war.
