When the Chernobyl reactor exploded in April, 1986, cities and villages in the area were quickly evacuated. Personal items were left behind. The largest town to be cleared out was Prypiat, with a pre-disaster population of some 50,000. Here, an image from a kindergarten in the stricken city.
