Herman Van Rompuy, 62, has been the prime minister of Belgium for 10 months and is now pegged as a favorite for the EU presidency. As head of a five-party-coalition, he would certainly be patient enough for the EU. One thing he has going for him is that he is practically unknown abroad -- and, thus, hasn't had a chance to make many enemies.
