A massive solar energy plant in the German town of Brandis near Leipzig: In fact, German citizens have paid dearly for this part of the green economic miracle. Electricity customers have paid 6 billion euros for solar modules in Germany that were installed between 2000 and 2008. The benefits are relatively modest, compared with the cost. Solar-generated electricity covers only 0.6 percent of demand in Germany.
