1904: Hippolyte Aucouturier won the second running of the Tour de France, but was then disqualified because he had made deals with many of the 87 riders who participated in the race. The competition, even then, was filled with controversy. "The Tour de France has ended, and I fear that the second running will be the last, wrote Henri Desgrange, founder of the Tour, in a piece for the publication L'Auto.
