As of 2009, citizens of Serbia and Macedonia were no longer required to obtain visas before traveling to the European border-free travel zone known as Schengen. The result has been an increasing number of Roma from those two countries applying for asylum in Germany. Here, two Roma children are seen in a poor settlement just three kilometers from downtown Belgrade.
