The small Omani town of Khasab sits at the tip of the Musandam Peninsula, which sticks out like a thumb into the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow sea passage separating Iran and the Arabian coast. Since increasingly stringent sanctions have been imposed on trade with Iran, the town has grown to become an important hub for smuggling goods across the strait to Iran. Here, commercial and fishing ships can be seen off the shores of Khasab.
