Sunday's election in the western German state of Lower Saxony was a neck-and-neck race, as expected. The conservative Christian Democratic Union got the most votes, but it remains uncertain whether CDU Governor David McAllister secured enough support together with his coalition partner, the business-friendly Free Democratic Party (FDP), to remain in office.
