This summer, a major cultural debate erupted after Berlin announced its plans to move the city's world-famous collection of Old Masters from a modern museum to its former site on Museum Island (pictured here), a UNESCO World Heritage site that is the historical home of the collection. After World War II, the collection was split between East and West Berlin and housed in different institutions divided by the Wall.
