"Very Few Ideas of His Own"

Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle of the business-friendly Free Democratic Party (FDP) is considered by the Americans to be a source of insecurity, as a man who needs to learn a lot to do his new job correctly. As an opposition politician, "he has criticized the United States for the last eight years, while at the same time offering very few ideas of his own on how to solve international problems." The FDP politician is a "wild card" and his "exuberant personality does not lend itself to taking a back seat to Chancellor Merkel on any issue."
