In 2005, the UN declared the people of the South Pacific island of Tegua the world's "first climate change refugees" owing to rising sea levels supposedly caused by climate change. A french team of experts is on a multi-year project on the nearby island of Vanikoro trying to figure out if the problem has more to do than with just rising sea levels.
