In September 2009, a German commander ordered the bombardment of two NATO tanker trucks that had been hijacked and become stuck on a sand bank in a river near Kunduz. Scores were killed in the attack, many of them civilians. Mullah Abdul Rahman was behind the hijacking of the tanker trucks.
