The lives of millions have been turned upside-down by Hurricane Katrina. More than one million people have been left homeless in Lousiana. Because of the danger of further flooding, tens of thousands of residents and stranded tourists are to be evacuated from New Orleans. Across the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, 1.7 million people are without electricity. The American Red Cross are talking about the largest aid operation in their history. Those affected by the disaster urgently require shelter, food and psychological counselling. Europeans can demonstrate their solidarity by donating online.
