"Our Families Had No Idea"

Khulood and Eyad, both 28, are Israeli Palestinians who live in the city of Ibillin. Khulood teaches at a school for special education and Eyad is a physical education teacher in Gallilee. They married in 2004 and have a six-month-old daughter.

How did you meet?

We were in the same grade in school. We got to know each other during an exchange program with young people from Germany.

What do you love about him / her?

Eyad: The thing I love about Khulood is the way she behaves and that she's always genuine. She's beautiful.

Khulood: His honesty and that he is respectful of others and compassionate.

What does love mean to you?

Honesty, cooperation, understanding for the other person. We complement one another other and share everything, sadness as well as joy. We live our love for each other.

What was the longest time you were separated from one another?

We were together for eight years before we married, although our families had no idea. During this time, we were never separated for very long.

What do you wish for?

To live with our daughter happily and in peace. We want to be able to offer her everything she needs.
