A Wedding Out Of 1001 Arabian Nights

Mohammed, 29, is a senior public prosecutor. Manal, 34, is a management consultant, although at the moment she is a stay at home mother raising their two children. They married in 1998.

Mohammed and Manal want to visit Germany.

How did you meet?

Manal: Through my sister. She and my husband studied together at university. She visited us together with him and I liked him immediately. You could say it was love at first sight. Mohammed confessed his love to me and made the proposal to my family. We married two years after our engagement. Our wedding was like something out of 1001 Arabian Nights.

What do you love about him / her?

Manal: He's a trustworthy person and he's always there for me when I need him. He's a good father and an ideal husband.

Mohammed: Manal is the first and greatest love of my life. When I hear the word "love" I think only of Manal. She's reliable, faithful and comes from a good family. She stands up for me and she's a superb mother.

What does love mean for you?

For us, love and mutual respect go together. When you love someone, you can give your all without asking why or what for. Love means enjoying the present and being full of hope for the future. Love is a beautiful thing you feel very strongly but have a difficult time talking about.

What was the longest time that you were separated from one another?

Manal: My husband sometimes works as an election monitor outside Cairo. But when he does, he calls me every evening.

What do you wish for?

We would like to be able to give our children a good education. We would wish for good health, and that there will be no more wars in the world. Our dream is to travel to Germany together.
