More than three centuries after it was torn down during the French Revolution, the royal gate of Versailles is once again greeting visitors to the famous palace near Paris -- just in time for France's rotating six-month presidency of the European Union. A replica of the steel gate, which is decorated with 100,000 gold leaves, was unveiled on Monday, restoring the glory of the original structure completed in 1682. Chateau de Versailles has been undergoing extensive renovations since 2003. Last year the palace's renowned Hall of Mirrors, where Lousie XIV entertained his guests, was returned to its former glory.
