A is for Alfi: In the mid-seventies the VEB Aluminiumwerke Fischbach (AWF) brought out their range of anodized items in a range of bright colors. Their stylish and practical products kicked off a renaissance of aluminum tableware in East Germany (the German Democratic Republic). It was nicknamed "Alfi," even though the name AWF (which belonged to the firm founded in 1914, which was expropriated after World War II and in 1949 re-started in the West German city of Wertheim) was not allowed to be used as of 1962.
