It is not easy to get huge ships from the Meyer Werft shipyards in the Lower Saxony town of Papenburg to the North Sea -- though not quite as difficult as this image makes it seem. The Celebrity Equinox made its way carefully down the Ems River on Saturday following the €500 million cruise ship's completion. The route, past farms and through fields, is not without its detractors. Environmental groups say that flooding the river to make way for the ocean-going giants produced by the shipyards is harmful to the birds and other wildlife that make the river shores their home. The river level was raised by 220 centimeters (over 7 feet) to make way for the Celebrity Equinox.
