An activist with his painted face takes part in a protest against censorship in the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Thursday. The protesters -- mainly journalists and artists -- were demonstrating outside a Kiev courthouse where a lawsuit is currently underway dealing with the attribution of frequences to two Ukrainian TV channels -- TVi and Channel 5 -- which are considered independent.
A court in June pulled crucial broadasting frequencies from the two channels but the management and journalists lodged an appeal. Many in the media worry that the freedoms gained in the country since the Orange Revolution in 2004 are being eroded.
