The Kobe Luminarie, an annual memorial event for the more than 6,000 victims of the Great Hanshin earthquake in Japan, cuts a line around the silhouettes of onlookers on Thursday night. The memorial light installation, which began in 1995 following the disaster and comprises more than 200,000 electric bulbs, will be lit up each night until December 17.
