Chinese blacksmiths spray molten metal against cold stone to spectacular effect on Feb. 24. The tradition of more than 300 years in Nuanquan, Hebei Province, a city known for metalworking, takes place annually as part of the Lantern Festival that marks the end of Lunar New Year celebrations. According to the tradition, molten metal is more affordable than buying fireworks for the festival.
