Lange, erzählerische Nigeria-Mails sind selten geworden. Heute treten sie vor allem in zwei Varianten auf: Kurze Botschaften mit der Bitte um Kontaktaufnahme (siehe unten) - oder aber kurze Mails mit PDF- oder anderen Anhängen, die oft Viren enthalten.

So sieht die klassiche Nigeria-Mail heute aus:

"Hello
My name toure celine 22years, Ivorian nationality, I am heiress of 12.5 Million U.S. Dollars. I want to transfer it to your account and in return I promise 20% for support and assistance so write me (toureceline1987@yahoo.fr).
Thank you very much for your help celine"

Die vielleicht tückischste Variante beruht auf Spamming der Adressen aus einem bestimmten Adressbuch, verschickt als Hilferuf der Person, deren Mailadressen abgegriffen wurden. Soll auch als Facebook-Variante innerhalb von Freundesnetzwerken kursieren:

"How is your day?, hope you are doing fine. Please can you do me a favor, I need a loan from you urgently to solve some certain problems at hand which has been giving me great worries. I'll reimburse you with in a week if given. However, I'd prefer we discuss this issue only through email as i am presently in the United Kingdom and out of reach on cell.
Something urgent came up, sorry if i didn't tell you and please try to understand. I will let you know how much am in need of, if you are willing to assist.

I await your reply.
