The Bauhaus school headquarters at its second home in Dessau, Germany. Martin Gropius founded the Bauhaus movement in Weimar in 1919. Persecuted by the Nazis, many of the major Bauhaus figures left Germany in the run-up to World War II. They had never sought to formally protect the movement's name by trademarking it. It was a fateful mistake.
