Photo Gallery Boar Meets Dog

An unlikely friendship, perhaps, but one no less true: A dog and a wild boar piglet have become chums. Their story began when the piglet was found abandoned in the woods near Ehringhausen in rural southwestern Germany. Fireman Wilhelm Karl Dahlhaus and his family adopted the baby boar and raised him by hand. Christened Manni, the boar developed a friendship with another young household inhabitant, a Jack Russell terrier named Candy.

Now five weeks old, Manni was skinny and starving when he was found. But Dahlhaus said he "filled out nicely" with bottle feeding. He and Candy play together every day, Dahlhaus told the newspaper Bild.

The pair play hide and seek, and chase each other around the yard.

But the wild little piggy won't be headed to market, so to speak -- Manni is safe from becoming anyone's dinner.

Instead, Manni will stay with the Dahlhaus family as a pet or live out his days in a wildlife park.
