A photograph taken from a mobile phone shows protesters demostrating against Syria's ruling regime in Sept. 2011. Syrian authorities have started clamping down on dissent. According to the latest UN figures, the regime of President Bashar Assad has killed roughly 2,900 Syrians since the protest movement got underway in mid-March. Though news from the country and Internet access have been tightly controlled, citizen journalists have been able to get around censors to get their photos, videos and news out.
