Spanish King Juan Carlos' recent elephant hunting mishap in Botswana resulted in perhaps the most damaging political photo since US presidential candidate Michael Dukakis was photographed in a tank in 1988. The image depicts the king, a patron of the nature conservancy group WWF, holding a rifle while standing next to a dead elephant he had just shot.
As if to show the monarch how a photo op should be done, German Chancellor Angela Merkel took a Tuesday trip to a bird sanctuary in Marlow in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Now that is a good publicity photo.
