Indian workers use truckloads of cloth to cover up statues of elephants in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh this week. The Electoral Commission ordered that nearly 200 of the statues of elephants, a symbol of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party, be covered in time for forthcoming elections. The elephants, ordered by the party but paid for with public funds, might unduly influence voters and therefore violate rules for next month's Uttar Pradesh state elections, the commission said.
