Pablo Picasso's "Nu au Plateau de Sculpteur (Nude, Green Leaves and Bust)" was sold Tuesday for a record $106.5 million (82 million) at Christie's auction house in New York. The winning bidder for the 1932 painting, who has yet to be named, outbid eight others who fancied the painting in a nine-minute auction. The 5 foot by 4 foot painting is of Picasso's muse and mistress Marie-Therese Walter. The auction house was reportedly ecstatic about the amount the painting fetched, a record for a painting sold at auction and the highest price paid for a Picasso work at auction since 2004.
The painting had belonged to the estate of Frances Lasker Brody, the late California art collector and real-estate developer who bought it in the 1950s.
