Pablo Picasso's "Nu au Plateau de Sculpteur (Nude, Green Leaves and Bust)" was sold Tuesday for a record $106.5 million (€82 million) at Christie's auction house in New York. The winning bidder for the 1932 painting, who has yet to be named, outbid eight others who fancied the painting in a nine-minute auction. The 5 foot by 4 foot painting is of Picasso's muse and mistress Marie-Therese Walter. The auction house was reportedly ecstatic about the amount the painting fetched, a record for a painting sold at auction and the highest price paid for a Picasso work at auction since 2004.
The painting had belonged to the estate of Frances Lasker Brody, the late California art collector and real-estate developer who bought it in the 1950s.
